We sell fewer shoes,
on purpose.

Thirty-four styles, not three thousand. Every one of them has been on someone's feet here for at least a season before it went live on the site.

Interior of an independent clothing and footwear shop
Since 2016

It started because buying shoes online was miserable.

Three sizes ordered, two sent back, a fortnight of waiting and still nothing that fit. We thought the problem was not the internet — it was that nobody selling the shoes had ever actually worn them.

So we set a rule on day one and have not broken it: nothing goes on the site until someone on the team has put at least a season into that exact model. That is why our product pages tell you to size up half on the trail runner and stay true on the court low. It is not marketing copy. It is somebody's actual experience of walking around in them.

The range stays small because of it. We would rather carry thirty-four pairs we can vouch for than three thousand we cannot.

The filter

Four questions every shoe has to pass

If a model fails any one of these, it does not make the range — however well it would sell.

Can it be repaired?

Leather boots must be welted so a cobbler can resole them. Sneakers must have a midsole that survives more than a couple of winters.

Does it hold up?

A full season of real wear before it goes live. Wet commutes, long days standing, actual mileage on the runners.

Is the fit predictable?

If a shoe runs strangely, we say so on the page. If it runs so strangely that nobody can size it reliably, we drop it.

Can we get sizes?

No point loving a shoe we can only stock in three sizes. We carry US 5 to 13 or we do not carry it.

Returns, honestly

Sixty days, postage paid, no interrogation.

Buying shoes you cannot try on is a gamble. The least we can do is make the downside painless.

Wear them indoors for as long as you need. Walk around the house, stand in them, wear them for an evening. If they are wrong, start the return from your confirmation email and we send a prepaid label. Refunds go back within three working days of the parcel arriving.

About one in nine orders comes back. We would rather that number than a customer who quietly never returns because a pair did not fit and it felt like too much hassle to say so.
